Oxford Botanic Garden Project
Oxford Botanic Garden commissioned a collection of boxes made from their celebrated black pine, Pinus nigra, felled in 2014 after nearly two centuries on the site. The tree had become something of a landmark: J.R.R. Tolkien called it 'Laocoon' and visited regularly, and Philip Pullman has written about its presence. The timber was carefully preserved after felling and held until the commission was ready.
